Celebrating Our TN Member Communities
From microgrids to municipal fleet transitions, check out what our member communities in Tennessee are doing:
Knoxville is driving change with a Green Fleet Policy, a decarbonization plan for public transit, and a partnership with Knoxville Utilities Board's community solar array program. It’s aiming for a 50% cut in municipal emissions by 2030 and 80% community-wide by 2050.
Memphis-Shelby County is tackling one of the highest energy burdens in the nation through residential weatherization, PACE financing, and the Memphis Area Climate Action Plan. Their target: up to 81% reduction in emissions from electricity and natural gas by 2050.
Metro Nashville is scaling up solar, retrofitting buildings, and committing to 100% renewable energy for government operations by 2041. Their goal: 80% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, including a zero-emissions fleet (non-emergency).
Montgomery County is working on a 6-month plan to reduce their energy, water, and tangible waste. County staff formed an employee green team that developed the plan after meeting with local professionals to learn about community environmental challenges.
SSDN’s Tennessee members are setting the pace for community sustainability and resilience in the Southeast—and showing what’s possible when local solutions lead.
