As seasons change, so do we
As the season changes, so do we
As we move into fall, a season of change, we've also had some changes within SSDN. We do not anticipate the changes to impact the amazing services SSDN staff provides to our member communities. We remain steadfast in our mission.
Interim Executive Director Ann Livingston has accepted an executive director position for another non-profit and will be relocating to Washington state, where she will continue to collaborate with local governments and Tribal entities. We are so grateful for the many years of dedication to SSDN Ann has given in various capacities and wish her all the best in her new endeavor. Ann’s last day with SSDN will be Sept. 26, 2025.
In addition, Casi Callaway has resigned her position as Chief Impact Officer. We also thank Casi for her dedication to and love for SSDN. During her time as a member and as part of the team, she has connected with so many of you, provided unwavering support for the organization, and shared her passion for the work we all do. We wish her all the best.
In order to make sure things continue to run smoothly, Nick Deffley has been named Interim Executive Director and will focus on organizational stabilization, fiduciary responsibilities, and transitional 501(c)3 tasks. Nick has already been stepping up as Interim Programs Director since February and has valuable organizational knowledge that will help us to maintain smooth operations.
In closing, the Board wants to assure all of you that we are working to maintain a stable organization, manage these changes thoughtfully and mindfully, support staff and, most importantly, reiterate that our network remains strong. We are an organization of exceptional professionals and teams that support each other with expertise, innovative ideas, leadership and vision, and thrive on the unwavering belief that the Southeast is a leader and a force in climate, equity, and environmental change. Please know SSDN staff remains committed to supporting you and be assured that our Board is committed to inclusion and transparency.

A message from Ann Livingston
I am writing to share that after nine years of participation in SSDN–as a member, as a consultant asked to develop a policy program for SSDN, as Policy Director, as Senior Executive and Director of Programs, and most recently as Interim Executive Director–I am leaving the organization. I love and will always support SSDN and the communities it serves. However, my partner and I have decided to relocate to Washington state and I am excited to share that I will be embarking on a new adventure as the executive director for a non-profit where I will continue to work with communities, local governments, and Tribal entities. As a result, my last day of service will be September 26.
It has been a pleasure working alongside you to support sustainability and resiliency actions across the Southeast.
I have many fond memories of the years I have spent as part of SSDN and am grateful for my time working with you.
Thank you, as always, for your partnership!
