Project Purpose

This project launched the Partnerships for Resilience and Empowered Planning (PREP) program to provide education on community resilience planning, promote network collaboration and to developed an online Community Resilience Planning Handbook for communities across the Southeast.

Education through Webinars and Workshops

This consisted of five educational webinars and two face-to-face workshops with expert presentations. Network collaboration was built into the program as communities worked together with the National Environmental Modeling and Analysis Center (NEMAC) and the University of Arkansas (UA). The first phase of this program developed the online Community Resilience Planning Handbook with interactive tools and templates, and enhanced the knowledge of participating communities regarding effective community resilience planning.  Throughout the program, communities worked with their internal staff and community partners to organize materials and build collaboration based on practical implementable opportunities within the local jurisdiction.

Community Resilience Planning Handbook and Project Materials

The Community Resilience Planning Handbook serves as the building blocks for creating individual Community Resilience Plans by providing resources for resilience planning, case study examples and best practices.  The handbook helps Southeastern communities assess community vulnerability to climate change, evaluate social sensitivity and potential outcomes of these risks, assess current adaptive strengths, engage in scenario planning around identified vulnerabilities and rank and prioritize vulnerability focus areas for resource allocation.
